The Software as a Service (SaaS) model continues to grow.According to the consultancy firm IDC, the SaaS model will triple its presence in Spanish companies and will become a referent in the sector with a penetration rate of 18% within three years.Along with other studies referring to growth trends in this model, a recent report by Gartner reveals that nine out of every ten companies intend to increase software as a service (SaaS) in 2009. Gartner bases this statement on a series of surveys conducted with 258 IT executives who are in charge of software purchasing for companies in eight of the most prominent countries in the world. Nevertheless, there are limits on this model's expansion. The first is the lack of knowledge about the SaaS system, since only 10% of people in the Spanish business world are well-acquainted with it, and the second is the fear of sharing the company's information... The Software as a Service (SaaS) model continues to grow among companies, especially those whose operation is based on online platforms, which are the ones to make the fastest use of its benefits. According to the consultancy firm IDC, the SaaS model will triple its presence in Spanish companies and become a referent in the sector with an18% penetration rate within three years. The software as a service proposal is very suitable for companies as it constitutes the largest part of the productive matrix. The market does not require costly and complicated investments, but rather simple and efficient solutions (the growing trend among companies is to invest if the change is simple and requires a low amount of effort) that increase productivity and save on costs. "Although it could appear that the opposite were true, the current context of crisis may accelerate the speed with which companies adopt the SaaS model since it enables them to access new capacities without having to make an initial outlay," says Fernando Maldonado, IDC analyst specializing in the software sector and author of the report. Among other studies referring the growth trends in this model, a recent report by Gartner reveals that 90% of companies plan to increase use of SaaS next year. Nine out of every ten companies intend to increase software as a service (SaaS) in 2009. Gartner bases this statement on a series of surveys conducted with 258 IT executives in charge of software purchasing for companies in eight of the most prominent countries in the world; most of them were already using Saas or planning to do so in the coming months. Nevertheless, there are limits on this model's expansion. The first is the lack of knowledge about the SaaS system, as only 10% of people in the Spanish business world are well-acquainted with it and 12% say they have limited knowledge. Paradoxically, this lack of knowledge is greater in SMEs due to a lack of IT resources, although the SaaS model is better suited to SME needs. The second limit is the fear of sharing the company's information, a barrier that can be overcome by providing more information about the model. http://www.revistatcn.com/id4097/el-modelo-saas-triplicara-su-presencia-en-la-empresa-espanola |
